Pune: Seven clubs from District 313 of Inner Wheel International came together to celebrate International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm, recognizing and honoring remarkable women who have made a difference in society. The event, hosted by IWC Poona Downtown and coordinated by its president, Daljeet Raizada, was marked by inspiring speeches, cultural performances, and heartfelt tributes.

The celebration was graced by the presence of the presidents of participating clubs: Sudha Bhat (IWC Pune Imperial), Antara Deshpande (IWC Poona North), Sonali Jayant (IWC Nigadi Pride), Priti Shirudkar (IWC Pune Platinum), Vrushali Vajrinkar (IWC Pune Midtown), and Shalini Chopra (IWC Pimpri). Each president invited a ‘Woman of Substance,’ honoring their contributions to society.

The chief speaker for the event was Captain Vidul Kelshikar, India’s first drone pilot, who shared her inspiring journey, motivating attendees with her achievements in aviation. District Chairman Shobhana Palekar also graced the occasion with her energetic presence, blessing the gathering and even joining in a celebratory dance with performers Anuja Gore and Sapna. District Treasurer Aparna Pradhan extended a warm welcome with a traditional half-kumkum ceremony.

The event honored seven exceptional women for their dedication to social causes. Aparna Deshmukh, founder of Abhalmaya Old Age Home, was recognized for caring for 87-90 senior citizens. Sharda Datir Patil was applauded for her relentless work in uplifting the Adivasi community. Suvarna Vaddar, a teacher at a labor camp, was honored for her efforts in infant care. Vandana Vashishth, a Covid warrior, was recognized for her work at Muktidham cremation ground. Snake rescuer Nita Gajre, Anganwadi coordinator Sangita Agle, and dedicated sweeper Surekha Bedekar were also celebrated for their service.

The event was a true tribute to womanhood, highlighting the contributions of women across various fields. A special note of thanks was extended to PIIBD Roshan Chindhy for their support in making the celebration a grand success.
