National Weather Service confirms 4 St. Louis area tornadoes so far, more expected
ST. LOUIS – The National Weather Service has confirmed four tornadoes from Friday evening’s St. Louis-area storms so far, with more official designations expected in the upcoming days.
NWS crews surveyed storm damage extensively Saturday in Villa Ridge, Gray Summit and Hillsboro, some of the areas that initially appeared to be hit hardest from Friday’s severe weather.
So far, NWS has confirmed these three tornadoes and designations:
An EF-2 from Hillsboro to Arnold (Jefferson County)
An EF-2 near Villa Ridge (Franklin County)
An EF-1 south of Union (Franklin County)
EF-2 southwest side of Arnold (Jefferson County)
Details on these tornadoes’ wind speeds and paths were not immediately available. The National Weather Service also reports an EF-3 tornado with 138 mph winds near Polpar Bluff in Butler County Friday night. The town is not generally listed in the St. Louis area
Damage assessments are ongoing, and NWS crews will continue to survey other St. Louis area spots of damage in Missouri and Illinois to evaluate where other tornadoes may have hit.
Based on early radar data and damage reports submitted to FOX 2, at least six tornadoes likely struck the St. Louis region Friday evening.
