Drug addict found dead in Jalandhar village
Jalandhar: Amidst a anti-drug campaign launched by the Punjab govt, a 28-year-old drug addict was found dead at his house in Jalandhar's Aadarmaan village. His family and neighbours suspect that he died due to drug overdose.
The deceased, Sukhwinder Singh alias Lalli, was working as a taxi driver but got into drugs and then lost his job. His mother got him admitted to a drug de-addiction centre, but he again fell into the trap. "On Saturday evening, he was sitting at a shop, and his mother took him to their home in the evening, and he slept after having a meal. After some time, his mother tried to wake him up in the night, but he did not respond. Neighbours rushed in for help. Later, doctors said that he was already dead," said Sandeep Arora, district president of All India Kisan Sabha and a resident of the village.
"It was known in the village that he had landed in a drug trap. His mother and others in the village suspect that he was high on drugs that day," he said. His elder brother, also a taxi driver, was away in Delhi. The family has a small landholding, and the brothers were working as drivers to make ends meet.
