Belagavi: Achievers from various fields, including actress Priya Savadi and actor Mallu Bagalkot, were felicitated in Belagavi on Sunday during the Renukacharya Jayanti. A grand procession of Sri Renukacharya's portrait was taken out from Channamma Circle to Kumar Gandharva Rangamandir in the city on the occasion.
The district administration, zilla panchayat, Kannada and culture department, and Belagavi City Corporation jointly organised the Renukacharya Jayanti at Kumar Gandharva Rangamandir. Speaking on the occasion, SM Gangadhariah, director of the Vijayapur Postgraduate Studies Centre of Channamma University, said Renukacharya's Siddhanta Shikhamani is the sourcebook of Veerashaiva Lingayat philosophical theories. "The role played by the Panch Peethas, which came into existence with the aim of uniting all religions and sects and creating a beautiful society, cannot be denied in religious awareness. There is no philosophical difference between Renukacharya and Basaveshwar," he said.
Mahantesh Kavatagimath, former MLC and honorary president of the Renukacharya Jayanti, said Renukacharya and Sharanas, including Basaveshwar, contributed to society as the heirs of the Veerashaiva Lingayat tradition.
Actress Priya Savadi, actor Mallya Bagalkota, lawyer and panchayat development officer Sridevi Hiremath, philanthropist Channaiah Viraktamath, Shrishail Mathad, and anchor Sarvamangala Aralimatti were felicitated.
