Shatachhi Nigam, a young-woman from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, has scripted history by securing a record-breaking salary package from Amazon, where she has been hired as a software developer. Shatachhi, currently residing in Kanpur Nagar, is pursuing a B.Tech degree in Computer Science at the Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT) in Gorakhpur, and received a job offer with a salary package of Rs 45 lakh from Jeff Bezos’ multinational giant.

Who is Shatachhi Nigam?

Born and raised in a low-income household in Uttar Pradesh, Shatachhi Nigam’s childhood was marred by financial constraints. Her father, Ashwini Nigam, worked as a salesman at a private firm where he earned a meagre monthly salary of Rs 12,000, while her mother, Neelam Nigam, is a homemaker.

Since her school years, Shatachhi Nigam excelled in academics, but the family, which lived in rented room, was constantly faced with financial hardships, forcing her to take out a loan to fund her studies, which she has since repaid.

She secured the 15th rank in her district in UP Board exams, and later secured admission into the MMMUT, where she is currently in her final year of her B.Tech course in Computer Science.

Highest-ever package in MMMUT history

Shatachhi Nigam passed two online test and interview to secure a job at Amazon, and was initially hired as an intern with a salary of Rs 1.10 lakh per month. However, her work impressed the higher-ups at Amazon, and after 6 months, she has been hired as a software developer with salary package of Rs 45 lakh per annum, the highest-ever in the history of MMMUT, breaking the record of Rs 15 lakh package offered by the Humming Web Company to another student.

The young woman has credited her family and teachers for her success, especially her uncle Naveen Srivastava, and aunt, Nalini Srivastava– both of whom work in a bank–  who always encouraged her to push ahead.

MMMUT Vice Chancellor Prof. JP Saini, Placement Cell Chairman Prof. VK Tripathi and Department Head Prof. Uday Shankar congratulated Shatachhi Nigam for her success and lauded her hard work and dedication.
