A big blaze at Central Bank of India building in Chandur Railway town reduced furniture, documents and cash running into lakhs into ashes on Saturday afternoon. No loss of life was reported. The exact figure of the loss is being ascertained.
The fire broke out, possibly due to short circuit, at around 12 noon when the bank was open for routine business. Employees spotted smoke emanating from a corner forcing them to vacate the building along with customers as the fire assumed devastating proportions within minutes.
Fire brigade at Chandur Railway Municipal Council was immediately informed and fire tenders were also summoned from Teosa and Dhamangaon Railway.
A large crowd gathered at the spot as soon as the news spread across the town. Sources said prima facie, the back's air conditioner caught fire due to short circuit.
