Man loses Rs 14 lakh in online trading scam
Thiruvananthapuram: A 55-year-old Edapazhanji native was defrauded of Rs 14 lakh by unidentified persons after being offered attractive returns through online trading.
The victim received a friend request on Facebook on Jan 1 this year from a profile named Indu Krishna, and she shared a link on Messenger hours later. When he entered his details in the link, he was contacted by another woman on Telegram who shared information about online trading. The victim was also given an opportunity to attend a free online class on trading.
He was later added to a WhatsApp group with 53 members, where regular updates on market trends were given. Some group members later shared posts claiming to receive profit from online trading. The victim then tried to test his luck by investing a small amount and he initially won attractive returns.
From Jan 10 until the end of Feb, he invested Rs 14 lakh, and the website showed the huge profit he earned. When attempts to withdraw the money failed, he demanded the accused to return his investment. They then stopped responding, and he finally approached the police with a complaint.
