The police on Saturday arrested the driver of a Coimbatore-based property developer on the charge of abducting the latter’s 11-year-old son.

The police said that Naveen, 30, who worked as driver for Sridhar Suryakumar of Thiruvalluvar Street, near Thudiyalur in the city, was arrested on Saturday.

According to the police, Sridhar’s wife S. Krithika lodged a complaint with the Thudiyalur police on Saturday afternoon, alleging that her 11-year-old son was abducted by Naveen.

As per the complaint, Naveen took the boy to a tuition centre at Thudiyalur at 11.30 a.m. The complainant alleged that Naveen declined her call when she tried to reach him in the afternoon to check the delay in returning home after tuition.

Since there was no reply, the woman went to the tuition centre where she was told that the boy had left the place in a white car. The complainant stated that Naveen contacted her husband in the evening and demanded a ransom of ₹12 lakh to release their son. The woman added in the complaint that Naveen threatened to harm the boy if the ransom was not paid.

After receiving the complaint, the Thudiyalur police traced Naveen’s whereabouts to Bhavani in Erode district. Erode district police were alerted, and Naveen was arrested and the boy handed over to the Thudiyalur police.
