Kanpur: Encouraged by the successful organisation of Kanpur Premier League (KPL), the governing body has commenced preparations for its second edition.
"The team is focusing on shortcomings faced in the first edition. Novel elements could be incorporated to provide a fresh flavour to the event, which is indeed a festival of Kanpur", said
Sanjay Kapoor, head of governing body.
In a gathering on the eve of Holi festival, Kapoor said the objective was to provide an excellent platform to local players and help Green Park restore its former glory. The organisers propose to conduct IPL and other matches in Green Park. The platform would provide local players recognition, enabling their selection in various cricket events across the country.
Kapoor, who also chairs the Kanpur Cricket Association, indicated that whilst six teams would remain in the second edition, the legislative assembly could be altered. Team valuations would increase in the second edition. Moreover, regulations and policies would be formulated allowing teams to retain certain players whilst selecting new ones to bolster their squads.
He stated that KPL had no rivalry with UPPL, a venture of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. Kanpur Cricket Association is an affiliated unit of UPCA.
