Guv to open Dalit Progressive Conclave ’25
T'puram: Gandhigram Foundation has decided to organize a Dalit Progressive Conclave 2025 at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology here on March 23. It will be inaugurated by governor Rajendra Arlekar, with senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala preside over the conclave.
The conclave was formed against the backdrop of Gandhigram programme initiated by Ramesh Chennithala in Kerala in 2010 during his tenure as KPCC president. Over 25 Gandhigram programmes were conducted across 14 districts since then. Beyond party politics, the conclave aims for Dalit advancement by bringing together various political leaders and Dalit Adivasi movement leaders.
The conclave is structured into three sessions based on various topics. The first topic is the constitutional rights of Dalits and the undermining of these rights. The topic of constitutional protection and reservation undermining for Dalit Adivasi communities will be presented by Prakash Yashwant Ambedkar, grandson of constitutional architect BR Ambedkar and a national Dalit movement leader. The second session, based on women's empowerment in society and family, will be opened by Telangana minister Dansari Anasuya. The third session on unemployment and land issues of Dalit communities will be inaugurated by Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge. In the final session, Chennithala will present the topic of review and future plans of Gandhigram programme so far. The closing session will be chaired by former union minister Mukul Wasnik.
