‘English has grown to be essential language’
Mandya: Today English has grown to be an essential and indispensable language in all fields of society. If students become proficient in English, they need not struggle to find employment, said Professor Mahadeva, a retired English professor of the University of Mysore. The Women's Govt College, English department, organised a one-day state-level seminar on ‘Dimensions of English Studies and Translation in Contemporary Society' under the RUSA 2.0 scheme.
Speaking after inaugurating the seminar, Mahadeva said, "There is a demand for English teachers all over the world, and today, English can be taught online, not just physically. One can earn money by teaching while sitting at home. Those who know English can shape their lives in any way they wish, and this belief recently became a reality. The English language has also brought along the world's knowledge, customs, and culture, which we can understand through the English language."
Gururaj Prabhu K, principal; Prof. Jayalakshmi B, RUSA 2.0 coordinator; and Mangalamma KM, HoD English department, were present.
