Success Story: Most of the students in India aspire to serve the nation as a civil servant. To become a civil servant, they prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Examination. These examinations are not easy and require a lot of hard work, dedication, and discipline.

For many, clearing the exam is not that demanding. But for a few, it is a big challenge that tests their limits. Eventually, they emerge victorious and set an example for many to follow.

IAS officer Kajal Jawla is one such name.

Kajal Jawla secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 28 in the UPSC CSE 2018. What is most striking about her preparation for the UPSC exam is that she was doing a full-time job.

Let’s take a closer look into her journey.

Kajal Jawla, a native of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, pursued her B. Tech in Electronic Communication from Mathura in 2010. Later she joined the celebrated multinational company Wipro where she was earning an annual salary of Rs 23 lakhs. According to her Instagram profile, she also worked at reputed firms such as Deloitte and Ernst and Young (EY).

However, Kajal’s interest was towards clearing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam and becoming an IAS officer. For nine years, Kajal worked hard relentlessly and very neatly balanced her studies with her full-time job.

Kajal says that she only managed to clear the UPSC exam because her entire focus was on the studies and the job. Ashish Malik, her husband took care of all the household responsibilities and did not allow Kajal to do any household work.

Kajal says that Ashish is very cooperative and this let her remain committed to her preparations. She would study even while commuting. She would study full-time on her off days. According to reports, Kajal got an All Indian Rank (AIR) of 28 in the UPSC 2022 exam on her fifth attempt. Her story is an inspiration to many women who wish to follow the same path.
