Gurgaon: A 36-year-old woman, confronting some youngsters for allegedly assaulting her 15-year-old son after a spat on Instagram, was dragged on the bonnet of their car for a kilometre in Sonipat last week.
The woman, who runs a photocopy shop near Sonipat Civil Hospital, was unharmed. Police said on Wednesday that the incident stemmed from a dispute between school students.
They have registered an FIR against a minor under BNS sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 125 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 126 (wrongful restraint), 190 (unlawful assembly), 191(3) (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 281 (rash driving) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation).
A video of the purported incident, which occurred on March 9, was widely shared on social media. It shows a woman hanging on to a white car as four men try to stop it from picking up speed. They eventually fall back as the car gains pace. Cops said the woman's son made a remark on an Instagram post by another boy from his school.
"The teenager was roughed up by the other student, a resident of Model Town, and his friends in Sector 15 on March 9. When the complainant went there with her nephew and intervened, they drove the car ahead, and she fell on its bonnet. After some distance, they stopped, and she got off. She did not sustain any injury," said Vikas Kumar, assistant sub-inspector, Sector 27 station.
The woman said in her complaint that her son was in a market near their house to buy milk when he was assaulted by a group of 4-5 youngsters in a Baleno car.
"My son called me and said he was attacked by a group carrying a knife and rods. I went there with my nephew Navdeep and confronted them. They assaulted Navdeep too and drove their car ahead, while I was on the bonnet," she said.
After the incident, the woman alleged, the accused again threatened to harm her and her children.
ASI Kumar said the woman named a minor in the complaint. "No arrests have been made so far," he said.
