Tipeshwar tigress spotted with limb caught in snare
Yavatmal: Tigress Sitar in Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, located on Maharashtra-Telangana border, was spotted with its front limb caught in a snare — the third such case in last two months. The incident surfaced after the tigress was captured on camera by tourists. The incident has raised concerns among wildlife enthusiasts about the increasing number of such cases in the sanctuary.
Tipeshwar has become a popular destination due to frequent tiger sightings and draws a growing number of tourists. During a safari in compartment no. 132 of the Manghi Beat near Mathani-Savargaon, some tourists spotted Sitar and captured it on camera. Upon close examination of the images, they realized a snare tightly wrapped around its front leg.
As soon as Tipeshwar Sanctuary officials were alerted, they launched a search operation to locate the tigress. A special rescue team from Amravati has been deployed to tranquilize and treat her. Earlier, two tigresses were rescued after being found with snares around their necks.
Divisional forest officer Uttam Phad said, "The tigress, which was clicked by tourist, is estimated to be about 15-month-old. A rescue team from Amravati has been called in to capture and treat her."
