V.O. Chidambaranar Port has surpassed 7,47,363 TEUs of container traffic handled in the previous financial year 2023-2024 on March 12, achieving this milestone 20 days ahead in the current financial year. This marks a significant achievement in the port’s container handling capabilities. As of February 2025, the port has handled 7,21,268 TEUs of containers, registering an impressive growth of 7.52% compared to the same period last year.
Recently the port has been honored with an Award for Excellence as the 3rd best container port in India among the ports handling more than 5,00,000 TEUs. The award was presented by the Ministry of Ports, shipping and Waterways on February 21.
Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson of V.O. Chidambaranar Port commended the relentless efforts of the container terminals in achieving this milestone. He also stated that the port has witnessed more than 30 ad-hoc calls from various container lines and emphasised that the port holds immense potential to attract more volume on completion of dredging and widening of the entrance mouth of the port in the coming months.
