T'puram: Kilimanoor police on Saturday morning brought Venjaramoodu native Affan (23) — accused in the mass murder — to SN Puram near Koonanvenga where he allegedly killed his uncle Abdul Latheef (61) and aunt Sajidha Beegum (57).
Meanwhile, mother Shemi, 47, who survived an alleged murder attempt by Affan and is recuperating at a hospital, was shifted to a room from the ICU after her condition improved. Doctors informed Shemi about the death of four people in the family but hid the fact that they were killed by Affan. She was told that her younger son Afsan, 13, died by suicide while Sajidha, Latheef and his mother Salma Beevi, 95, were killed in a car accident. She was not told anything about the death of Affan's girlfriend Farsana, 21. Hearing the demise of her family members, Shemi burst into tears and requested doctors to allow her to meet her son Affan. They would allow it only later, considering the gravity of the crime and to stop Shemi from making any attempt to save her son.
During evidence collection, Affan told police that Latheef was murdered as per a plan and Sajidha was killed when she made noise upon seeing her husband in a pool of blood.
Affan told police that Latheef kept on criticising him for landing the family in huge debt. Also there was a quarrel between Shemi and Latheef after the former failed to hand over Rs 80,000 which he had won through a chit fund run by her. During the talk over this, Affan hit Latheef on the head with a hammer several times. Hearing his cry, Sajidha rushed to the hall from the kitchen and she was also killed in the same way.
As Latheef's phone rang after his murder and Affan took it along with the key of his car. They were thrown into a thicket nearby. Affan was brought to the place and the mobile and key were recovered from the spot. Affan was also taken to the shop from where he bought chilli powder as a precaution to save himself during the attack. Affan told police that it was not used.
"The picture is clear now and we must find out how the family landed in a huge debt trap. We will get a clear idea about it when we speak to Shemi," said rural SP KS Sudarshan.
After evidence collection, Affan will be produced before Nedumangad judicial first class magistrate court-2 on Wednesday. Venjaramoodu police will move a custody application on Thursday for evidence collection in the murder of Affan and Farsana and the attempted murder of Shemi.
