Bihar firm sells abortion pills online, FIR filed in Haryana’s Rohtak
Rohtak: The Rohtak district health department has registered a case against a Bihar-based firm, Youngmart.in, for illegally selling abortion pills online.
Officials at IMT police station will soon interrogate officials of Youngmart on the issue, said an official.
According to Rohtak civil surgeon Dr Ramesh Chandra Arya, the health department received information about the online sale of MTP kits on Feb 28. It was found that the website was allowing individuals to purchase abortion pills without any medical consultation. The unauthorised sale of such medications was being conducted illegally through the platform, he said.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Dhirendra Khadgata directed authorities to take action against the website for its unlawful practices. Following these instructions, the health department filed a complaint at the IMT police station. Additionally, the department handed over the package obtained from an online order as evidence to the police for further investigation.
Dr Ramesh Chandra Arya highlighted that the illegal sale of abortion pills through online platforms is having a negative impact on the state's sex ratio. He said in the digital era, criminals had devised new ways to facilitate fetal terminations, posing a significant challenge. The health department is making all possible efforts to curb such activities and prevent their consequences, he said.
IMT police station in-charge Mahesh Kumar confirmed the FIR.
