The Tamil Nadu government has named a newly built market in Tiruttani Municipality, Tiruvallur district, ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Market’.

According to a press release, the municipality’s market, with 81 shops, had been operating for 35 years. However, it was insufficient for the current population, and in a dilapidated condition. The Municipal Administration and Water Supply department had issued a government order in August 2023, sanctioning ₹3.02 crore under the Kalaignar Nagarpura Mempattu Thittam to demolish the old building and construct a new facility with 97 shops.

With the works nearing completion, the Director of Municipal Administration said the State government has decided to name the new market ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Market’.
