Gene Hackman's Daughter Emerges After False Statements
Actor Gene Hackman's daughter Leslie Anne Allen had been largely out of the public eye since she was proven incorrect about the health and wellbeing of her father. But she finally emerged in public this week.
In an interview soon after Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were discovered dead, Allen stated that her father was "in good health" and exhibited no symptoms of any health issues.
“There was no indication that there was any problem [with his health],” Allen told The Daily Mail. “He liked to do Pilates and yoga, and he was continuing to do that several times a week. So he was in good health.”
Allen did admit that she had not seen or spoken to Hackman or Arakawa “for a couple of months” due to the fact that she lived in California and they lived in New Mexico. Still, she said she was "close" with her father and that "everything was good."
“We were close… I hadn’t talked to them for a couple months, but everything was normal and everything was good,” she said.
Obviously, a full investigation proved that these statements were false. Hackman was certainly not in "good health," as Allen claimed. In fact, Chief Medical Investigator Dr. Heather Jarrell determined that the former actor was "in a very poor state of health" and listed a number of health conditions that would be detrimental to his wellbeing.
“Mr. Hackman showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer’s disease,” Jarrell said. “He was in a very poor state of health. He had significant heart disease, and I think ultimately that’s what resulted in his death.”
These conditions were not necessarily new, either as the autopsy revealed that Hackman suffered from "severe heart disease, including multiple surgical procedures involving the heart, evidence of prior heart attacks, and severe changes of the kidneys due to chronic high blood pressure."
Allen's interview, coupled with the fact that officials initially described Hackman and Arakawa's deaths as "suspicious" led many to delve into heavy speculation regarding their cause of death. As it turns out, Arakawa died of a rare disease typically transmitted by rodents while Hackman was simply in poor health and was unable to care for himself.
Allen had been largely out of the public eye since officials proved her statement incorrect, but the 58-year-old was seen running errands by herself in Los Angeles, marking he first appearance in public since the details of her father's death were revealed.
