Patiala: A Punjab Police special investigation team (SIT) has once again summoned SAD leader
Bikram Singh Majithia to appear before it on March 17 this year in a drugs case registered against him under sections 25, 27A, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Punjab state crime police station in Mohali in Dec 2021.
He was asked to appear at SIT headquarters in Patiala on March 17 at 11am, following orders from
Supreme Court. The court said if required, Majithia may appear the next day. The bench also stated that the authorities may interrogate him and complete the investigation.
The SIT, led by Ropar range DIG, who was earlier DIG Patiala, is investigating the case against Majithia. He was summoned and questioned several times in the past in connection with this case. However, in Jan 2024, SIT also summoned and questioned four associates of Majithia, including his former OSDs and PA. After appearing in almost all hearings, Majithia criticised state govt on various issues and claimed that the allegations in the case against him were baseless.
Majithia was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana high court in Aug 2022, but SIT moved the Supreme Court to seek cancellation of the regular bail granted to him by the high court. Majithia even skipped his appearance on July 20 last year before the SIT, citing grounds that he was in Delhi assisting his lawyers in a petition filed against him in the Supreme Court by the state govt to cancel his bail in the same case.
