Design wall to avert accidents, CET told
T'puram: Chairperson of state human rights commission (SHRC) Justice Alexander Thomas, instructed the principal of College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET) to submit the design for a retaining wall within two weeks. This wall should be constructed at Madhupalam near Kaimanam.
The wall is intended to prevent accidents on the Kaimanam Madhupalam-Elankatharakunnu road, which has a deep ditch on one side, 12m from the road. The assistant executive engineer of the municipality reported in a meeting that the design was not yet received, prompting the commission to direct the engineering college principal.
The corporation also mentioned considering the installation of guardrails in areas without a retaining wall. The complainant, a resident from the area, informed the commission that vehicles frequently overturn into the ditch due to the absence of guardrails.
Justice Thomas requested a detailed report within four months on the actions taken to resolve the issue. There are 300 houses in the area and residents have no alternative route for travel. The complainant also pointed out before SHRC that several minor accidents occurred in the area and the authorities have not taken any concrete steps to prevent the accidents. The complaint also highlighted that despite several requests before the concerned authorities, including the govt, no decision was taken yet.
