As part of Glaucoma Awareness Week (March 9–15), District Collector Sumit Kumar unveiled wall posters to raise awareness about the disease, on Monday in his chambers.
According to a press release, the Collector emphasized that glaucoma is an eye disease caused by increased intraocular pressure, which damages the optic nerve and gradually leads to vision loss. He highlighted that the early stages of glaucoma often have no symptoms, making regular eye check-ups essential.
To promote early detection, the Chittoor Government Hospital is offering free glaucoma screenings throughout the awareness week. The Collector urged the public to take advantage of this opportunity. He stressed the importance of timely eye check-ups, particularly for individuals over 40 years old, diabetics, hypertensive patients, steroid users, and those with a family history of glaucoma.
