Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 21 have raised concerns over the lack of proper sanitation in the sector due to inadequate manpower and lax supervision. Roads, footpaths and market areas are left littered with trash and no action has been taken despite repeated complaints to the MCG, they said.
Currently, only 19-20 sanitation workers and two tractor trolleys are deployed to cover over 20km of roads in the sector, including five residential pockets and a market. With 1,650 plotted houses in the sector, residents said this workforce is nowhere near sufficient to maintain cleanliness.
"MCG only acts when a full-blown crisis erupts, but by then, it's too late. Our civic grievances are continuously neglected. Without enough sanitation staff and proper supervision, the area is turning into a health hazard, increasing the risk of disease," said Prakash Lamba, RWA president of Sector 21.
According to residents, while MCG intervenes occasionally when they escalate matters with senior officials, there is no consistent effort to maintain cleanliness. Garbage continues to accumulate along the roads and market areas are neglected. Dust from unswept roads worses air quality as well, they added.
KL Sharma, general secretary of Sector 21 RWA, said, "With just 19-20 sanitation workers and two tractor trolleys, the sector is virtually neglected. Uncooperative supervisors and lack of accountability make things worse. Footpaths, roads, and market areas remain neglected, and even the little cleaning that happens is undone within days. The workforce and resources must be doubled immediately."
When asked, a senior MCG official said that the civic body is working on addressing the issue. "We are undertaking regular cleaning in the area. However, we have already submitted the proposal to the higher authorities for additional resources," the official added.
