Patna: With Holi just around the corner, Patna's markets are abuzz with stalls and shops selling herbal colours, ‘pichkaris', balloons and traditional sweets.
This year, the innovative pichkaris are inspired by popular films like ‘Pushpa' and ‘Bahubali'. The Pushpa-inspired axe pichkari with the slogan ‘Jhukega Nahi' (won't bend) has become popular. Additionally, electronic pichkaris with a rechargeable battery system are also available in the market.
Ramesh Singh, a vendor at Churi Market, said, "Electronic pichkaris, ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 800, have brought a new craze in the market. They not only shoot bubbles but also have the capacity to spray water over long distances."
He said prices of ‘Pushpa' and ‘Bahubali' pichkaris are available between Rs 250 and Rs 1,500.
A vendor, Neeraj Kumar, at Boring Road roundabout said special pichkaris, having cartoon characters, are available in the market. "Children can wear them around their waist like a school bag. Additionally, a colour spray gun has also hit the market this time, which releases coloured powder when fired. The price of this product ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 600. Balloon shooters, priced at approximately Rs 350, have also become a centre of attraction," Neeraj added.
Rajesh Kumar, a trader near Khajpura on Nehru Path (Bailey Road), said people in Patna have become more health-conscious and they prefer herbal colours. They are priced between Rs 20 and Rs 100 per 100 grams. Branded powders range from Rs 200 to Rs 800 per pack, while ‘gulaal' is available for Rs 250 to Rs 400 per pack. Herbal powder sets with five colours start at Rs 150.
"This year, self-sealing water balloons, costing around Rs 100, are also available in the market, which can fill multiple balloons with colour and water when attached to a tap," added Rajesh.
