The Delhi police have busted a betting racket in Govindpuri, south Delhi and arrested 11 people, including the kingpin, an officer said on Sunday.
The kingpin, Ashok Kumar, along with his son, Sanju, and nephew, Rohit, operated the syndicate from two locations in Govindpuri. According to police, the racket used to take bets on numbers for games, and Mr. Kumar managed himself without any intermediaries.
Acting on a tip-off, the two locations were raided on March 4 and Mr. Kumar and others were caught red-handed, the officer said. A total of Rs 83,000 in cash was recovered from the locations.
During interrogation, Mr. Kumar disclosed that he started taking bets after he suffered financial losses in his departmental store business. The officer added that he had also previously been booked under the Excise and Gambling Act.
