SI attacked while trying to resolve dispute
T'puram: The sub-inspector (SI) of Poojappura station was injured in an attack by a person using a wooden piece while trying to prevent him from disrupting the works of the city corporation at Tirumala.
The accused was identified as Krishnendhu, 40.
According to the police, the accused tried to disrupt the renovation works of a pond near Parekavu temple at Tirumala by the corporation authorities. The sub-inspector Sudheesh SL, 45, and other police personnel reached there after being alerted by the corporation staff.
The accused reportedly snatched all the work equipment brought to cut a tree as part of the renovation work. When police reached the spot, using a wooden log, the accused then hit the sub-inspector on the leg several times. Even though the other officers tried to restrain him, he escaped from there. Sudheesh was soon rushed to a hospital.
Krishnendhu had previously contested the pond's ownership legally, but the court issued the verdict in favour of the local body, the police said.
Police have booked him on non-bailable sections of BNS 351 for criminal intimidation, 115 (2) for causing hurt, 118 (2) for causing hurt using a weapon or any dangerous means, 296 (b) for abusing, and 121 (1) for causing hurt to a public servant while doing duty. TNN
