Dumka: A day after Rahul Gandhi called for identifying Congress leaders in Gujarat allegedly working for the BJP, Jharkhand Congress in-charge K Raju acknowledged the presence of BJP ‘sleeper cells' within party ranks across all levels in the state.
Raju, accompanied by state Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, minister Deepika Pandey Singh, and legislative party leader Pradeep Yadav, addressed the issue during a party programme held in Godda on Sunday.
"While Rahul Gandhi's remarks about two groups in Congress – one loyal to the party and another collaborating with BJP – were specific to Gujarat, this issue exists elsewhere, including Jharkhand Congress. Steps are being taken to identify and remove such elements from the party," said Raju.
The Congress state in-charge accused the BJP of attempting to poach Congress leaders and functionaries at all levels to achieve their goal of a ‘Congress-free India'.
"Our role as a political party extends beyond electoral participation. We must address people's aspirations and resolve their difficulties," Raju emphasised.
Having met with Congress cadres, including block and mandal level functionaries from 18 district units, Raju said reports of party members' disloyalty were widespread. "Such information about betrayal by Congress leaders and workers has emerged from everywhere," he stated.
The party has scheduled interaction camps in Godda and Dumka for all six districts of the Santhal Pargana division. These camps aim to address grievances and gather suggestions for strengthening the party's organizational base. While party workers from Godda, Sahibganj, and Deoghar districts will participate in the Godda camp, those from Dumka, Jamtara, and Pakur will attend the Dumka session on Monday.
State minister and Mahgama MLA Deepika Pandey Singh supported both Rahul Gandhi's Gujarat remarks and the state party in-charge's observations. "Rahul Gandhi's strong stance against internal betrayal has resonated well with dedicated party workers," she said, emphasizing the distinction between merely being in the Congress and being a true Congress supporter.
