Ludhiana: The work to lay a 3.5km pipeline to prevent the flow of sewer water from Tajpur village into the Buddha Dariya commenced Sunday. It was inaugurated jointly by cabinet minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and MP Balbir Singh Seechewal.
The wastewater will now go to the 225MLD treatment plant at Tajpur Road.
Addressing the gathering, Mundian commended Seechewal for making people aware about their immediate environment.
He also provided a grant of Rs 19 lakh from his discretionary fund for a permanent solution to the discharge and drainage of wastewater from Tajpur.
Bhukhari Khurd sarpanch Satpal Singh told the cabinet minister that some dairy farmers in his village were still dumping cow dung and cow urine into the drain. Following a complaint from villagers, Mundian asked the DC to take strict action against the culprits.
So far, wastewater management of six out of eight villages has been completed under the leadership of Seechewal.
