The District Disaster Management Authority has directed officials to inspect the 451 water kiosks installed in various parts of the district in the wake of the onset of the summer season.
At a meeting chaired by District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh on Monday (March 10), it was decided to repair non-functional kiosks. Officials were asked to identify areas facing water shortages with the help of the respective local bodies and ensure that tanker lorries are deployed there to address the crisis.
The local bodies were also told to clear blockages in water canals and remove waste dumped in public places, which could catch fire if temperatures rise. The working hours of labourers employed outdoors have been rescheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the Labour department directed to ensure that they do not work between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Irrigation department officials said new check dams and vented cross bars (VCBs), structures built across streams, are being constructed. Existing VCBs are being renovated, and ponds are being revived, they added.
