Himachal Pradesh Weather Alert: Light Snowfall in Higher Regions, Four Days of Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

Shimla, March 10 – Fresh Spell of Snowfall and Rain Predicted The weather in Himachal Pradesh has once again taken a turn, with cloud cover intensifying across various parts of the state. Higher-altitude regions have recorded light snowfall, while rain showers are likely in mid and lower-altitude areas. The Meteorological Center in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for rain, snowfall, and thunderstorms across different parts of the state over the next four days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a Western Disturbance is currently active, leading to snowfall in the upper mountainous regions and rain in the plains. This weather pattern is expected to persist until March 14, potentially impacting daily life and travel.

Snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, Temperature Drops Sharply

The high-altitude districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, and Chamba witnessed light snowfall last night, further dropping the temperature in these areas.

Yellow Alert for Rain and Thunderstorms in Several Districts

The Shimla Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert from March 10 to 14, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in several districts.

Regions Most Affected:

Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur: High probability of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall.
Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Solan: Likely to experience light to moderate rainfall.
Weather Expected to Remain Unstable Until March 16.

Authorities have advised tourists and residents to remain cautious, as snowfall in high-altitude regions can cause slippery roads, landslides, and travel disruptions.

The IMD predicts a significant drop in both minimum and maximum temperatures across Himachal Pradesh in the next 24 hours:

Tabo (Lahaul-Spiti): Coldest spot at -3.1°C.
Kukumseri & Keylong: -2.6°C and -2.3°C, respectively.
Manali: 8.1°C (Minimum).
Shimla: 9.5°C (Minimum).

With snowfall intensifying in the higher altitudes, residents in these regions will experience severe cold, while cold winds in the plains will make the weather chillier than usual.
