Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Geetha Jeevan on Monday provided marriage assistance to 276 beneficiaries worth ₹2.90 crore.
The Minister distributed gold coins worth ₹1.79 crore and financial assistance worth ₹1.10 crore to 276 beneficiaries.
The assistance was provided under various schemes including marriage assistance for orphaned and destitute women, remarriage assistance for widows, marriage assistance for daughters of widows and inter caste marriage assistance.
She highlighted the government’s commitment to women’s welfare, stating that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin prioritises women’s empowerment as social progress. She stressed the first initiative signed by the Chief Minister upon taking office was a free bus travel scheme for women.
The officials from Thoothukudi Corporation and other departments were present.
