17 years and counting, this film has been loved and celebrated for years, which is quite a rare thing in the cinematic world. People across all generations resonate with it, many calling it their ‘comfort movie.’ From its hilarious dialogues, interesting storyline to star cast performance, everything in the film has been widely appreciated. Well, it wouldn’t be difficult for you to recall, especially when the dialogue called ‘Mein apni favorite hoon’ comes up. It is none other than Imtiaz Ali’s one of the most iconic films Jab We Met.

Released in 2007, Jab We Met starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The Imtiaz Ali directorial venture became a huge hit, praised by fans and critics alike. It is till date a cult favourite film among fans of romantic comedy genre.

Made in a reported budget of Rs 15 crore, Jab We Met went on to earn Rs 50.9 crore worldwide. Several fans have demanded a sequel to the film. While Imtiaz Ali has declined several times, the craze around the film never truly escape the question.

Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta rejected Jab We Met

Did know Kareena and Shahid weren’t the choice for the film? Imtiaz Ali first considered to pair up Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta, but the duo rejected his offer. While speaking to Galatt India, the filmmaker said, “He is one of the best friends I will ever have. So I was trying to make it with him. But it never got made to the extent that many years passed… Bobby was doing some other work, so I thought let it be, let’s not make this film together. We shook hands on that.”

Imtiaz further added, “I had also gone to Preity Zinta. Jab We Met was the most rejected film of my life. It was being rejected everywhere. It was when I narrated the film to Preity Zinta in her house, that she laughed. I thought she is laughing at me, mocking me! But she said it was really funny. So, I continued narrating. That was the first time somebody had complimented the film. So I owe it to her and whenever I meet her I give her a special hug and thank her that, You were the first person, who told me this film is ok. So Bobby and Preity Zinta is the pairing I wanted but it didn’t happen.”

Unfortunately, Jab We Met was Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor’s last film together, as the couple broke up after its release.
