Ludhiana: For the family of 36-year-old Gurnarinder Singh, resident of Street Number Five, Luxmi Nagar, Haibowal the gruelling suspense of the past 17 hours ended in tragedy. Gurnarinder Singh was one of the two persons who died in the building collapse on Saturday evening.
The deceased is survived by his father Gurjant Singh, wife, Shohama, and 12-year-old son, Rehan, a Class VI student. He also has a brother. His relatives said that his mother passed away long back.
Gurjant Singh, a retired MC tubewell operator, demanded justice for his son and sought help for the family from the govt. Wife of the deceased and his son were in no condition to talk.
Baljit, a relative of the deceased, said that they learned about the incident at 7.30pm on Saturday evening and came to know that Gurnarinder was buried under the debris. At 1.30pm on Sunday, they got final confirmation that he had died. Another relative said that initially, his phone was switched on, but later it got switched off. He added that Gurnarinder was supervisor in the factory and an expert in computer dyeing, leading a team of many workers.
Meanwhile, relatives and residents of the street where Gurnarinder lived demanded punitive action against the factory owner. A close friend of Gurnarinder, Gurvinder Singh, said that it was heart-wrenching to watch his friend's body being taken out. He added that it was yet to sink in.
Gurvinder and another area resident alleged that when the factory owner got work of lifting the pillars started, workers were inside and he did not bother about the danger they were in. They added that there were many workers whose families were not aware of the incident.
