India has been named the top solo travel destination this year, surpassing Italy and Japan, according to a new report by luxury travel provider Kensington.
With its rich cultural heritage, spiritual sanctuaries, and breathtaking landscapes, India offers an unmatched experience for solo travelers. Whether exploring the bustling bazaars of Jaipur, cruising through the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, or soaking in the spiritual ambiance of Varanasi’s ghats, the country caters to diverse travel preferences. It is also home to the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the modern-day Seven Wonders of the World, drawing millions of visitors each year.
The report also highlights other sought-after solo travel destinations, with Egypt, Thailand, Australia, Spain, Iceland, France, and New Zealand securing spots in the top ten.
One of the key reasons behind India’s growing popularity among solo travelers is its affordability and diverse accommodation options, ranging from luxurious palace hotels to budget-friendly homestays and hostels. Additionally, the strong rail and air connectivity across the country makes it easy for travelers to explore multiple destinations in a single trip.
Findings were drawn from Kensington’s 2024 data, along with insights from two external surveys conducted in collaboration with Opinium Research and Dig Insight, analyzing the preferences of affluent travelers worldwide.
