A 45-year-old butcher was found dead with injuries near his farmland in Rendadi village near Sholinghur town in Ranipet on Sunday.
Police said the deceased has been identified as K. Srinivasan, a farmer in the village. Initial inquiry revealed that deceased Srinivasan was running a meat shop in the village to supplement his income from paddy cultivation in his four acre farmland in the village.
Despite his farming activities, Srinivasan has several criminal cases including attempted murder, molestation and thefts in adjoining areas. As part of his farming work, Srinivasan was going to his paddy field when a gang intercepted him and hacked him to death near his farm land.
Based on an alert from residents, Sholinghur police rushed to the spot. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts were roped to trace the suspects. The body was shifted to Government Taluk Hospital in Sholinghur for postmortem. A case was registered. Ranipet SP Vivekananda Shukla formed five special teams to nab those involved in the crime. A probe is underway.
