Disabled woman gang-raped in Bharuch village
Surat: A 20-year-old disabled woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men at a village in Jambusar taluka of Bharuch during the early hours of Saturday. Police have tracked down the accused and are working to apprehend them. The victim has no legs and has 80% disability.
Police booked Ashwin Rathod and Vijay Rathod for allegedly raping the woman when she was sleeping in a shanty with her family members. At about 2am on Saturday, the accused entered the metal roofed shanty which has plastic sheets on the sides. They had oil with them which they used in the crime. They allegedly subjected the victim to unnatural sex as well.
They covered the victim's mouth with their hands and did not let her call out for help. Her brother, sister-in-law, and their child were sleeping in the shanty while her parents were sleeping outside in the open.
"The child woke up and started crying and on hearing the cries, the survivor's sister-in-law also woke up. She shouted for help on noticing the accused, after which they fled," said a police officer.
Other family members woke up and chased the accused. The father of the survivor identified the accused, and the survivor later lodged an FIR.
Police are gathering more details. "Immediately after the offence was reported to the police, an investigation was started, and we traced the accused. We will arrest them soon," said Mayur Chavda, superintendent of police, Bharuch.
