Lady doctor attempts suicide at private hostel in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A 27-year-old lady doctor, who was under severe depression, attempted to end her life at a private hostel in the city on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
The Race Course police said the incident came to light after they traced the lady doctor's whereabouts based on a missing person complaint lodged by her parents on Friday night.
"Her parents Rajasekar and Lalitha, of Krishna Colony near Singanallur, approached us around 10pm on Friday, stating their daughter, who was working as a doctor with a private hospital on Avarampalayam Road, hadn't returned home after work," a police officer said.
The Race Course police began an investigation and came to know that the lady doctor had resigned from her job on Friday morning and walked out of the hospital premises by 11.45am. "We collected CCTV footage from the hospital and traced her whereabouts to a private hostel near the hospital with the help of her mobile network. When we found her at midnight, she was vomiting. She told us that she had consumed poison to end her life," the officer said.
Police immediately took her to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, where her condition is said to be stable. "We have registered a case and further investigation is on," the officer said.
