Ludhiana: Police Sunday lodged an FIR against a travel agent for duping a man of over Rs 15 lakh with the promise of sending his grandson abroad on a work visa. However, once he got the money, neither did he send him abroad nor did he refund the amount.
The accused, Manjeet Singh, is from Bathinda.
Harbhajan Singh Gill from Dehlon Road lodged a complaint against him on Nov 12, 2024.
The complainant said his grandson, Jaskaran Singh, wanted to settle in Canada. So, they approached Manjit, who assured them that he would send Jaskaran to Canada with a work visa. He took Rs 15.25 lakh from them in instalments and asked them to wait for a few months. So, they waited for four months. Even after that, they didn't get the visa as promised. When they asked Manjit to return their money, he started dilly-dallying. Thereafter, the grandfather lodged a police complaint.
After an inquiry, police booked Manjeet under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and the Immigration Act.
