DoE lays down guidelines for admissions to special schools
New Delhi: The Directorate of Education (DoE) has announced new admission guidelines for Delhi govt-run special schools, targeting entry-level and classes I to IX and XI. Cycle 1 of admissions into classes nursery to X and XII will start on Monday through online registrations.
According to a circular, students who have completed their previous grade at a recognised school will be directly admitted to classes VI through IX. Out-of-school children seeking entry into Class VI will have to appear for an assessment that will evaluate their literacy and numeracy skills. Applicants for classes VII and VIII who have not attended a recognised school can gain admission by providing a simple undertaking from their parents.
An official said: "Admission to class IX is strictly for students who passed the preceding class from an accredited institution. Students transferring from feeder schools with valid documentation are exempt from the age requirement, with heads of schools authorised to grant a six-month age relaxation upon parental request."
The age criteria for admission into govt special schools are specified based on the class levels as of March 31 of an academic year. For entry-level classes, the age specifications have also been given in the circular. The guidelines stipulate that age relaxation of up to six months may be granted depending on the class level and at the discretion of the school.
"For class XI, students who completed the class X examination will qualify for admission. Those from the National Institute of Open Schooling must achieve a minimum of 50% in five subjects to pursue humanities without skill subjects, and 45% for those including skill subjects," the official said.
For students with disabilities, specific requirements apply. Admission to schools for the blind necessitates a disability certificate or Unique Disability ID (UDID), while students with intellectual disabilities must be classified as having moderate to profound disabilities based on IQ assessments. Priority in admissions will be given to children residing in trans-Yamuna areas due to transport challenges.
The directorate has said that all admissions will be conducted online via the official website.
