Nagpur: The Nagpur University (NU) will be felicitating the Padma awardees from Vidarbha at a grand event. Acting vice-chancellor Prashant Bokare delegated the responsibility of gathering information about the achievements and life of these notable figures to senate member Manmohan Bajpai and others.
During the previous senate meeting, Bajpai had requested the university to confer honorary DLit on Shankar Baba Papalkar, neurologist Dr Chandrashekhar Meshram, Dr Ravindra Kolhe and Dr Smita Kolhe, besides organising a ceremony to felicitate them.
The NU administration said that the process of conferring DLit and organising a felicitation function was underway, and it was seeking their consent through emails. Bajpai insisted that the university determine a timeframe as well as appoint someone to reach out to the eminent personalities instead.
VC Bokare said if Bajpai can take the lead and approach these personalities on the university's behalf, the process can be expedited. When Bajpai agreed, Bokare suggested that he, along with other members, can also find other Padma awardees from Vidarbha who can be honoured for their achievements.
Bajpai said Papalkar has been doing extraordinary service for the destitute, children with special needs, and those who are neglected by society at his ashram.
Similarly, Dr Chandrashekhar Meshram and the Kolhe couple have done extraordinary work, inspiring millions, including the students of Nagpur University, Bajpai said.
