Patna: Burglars broke into two unoccupied residences in Barh early Saturday and decamped with valuables, including jewellery and cash, amounting to Rs12 lakh. Police suspect that both houses were burgled by the same gang of robbers.
The incidents occurred at Maya Bigha and Godhiyari village in the Bhadaur area. According to the police, the perpetrators broke the main door locks and gained access to the residences.
The robbery came to light when the neighbours saw the broken locks of the doors and informed the respective owners, a police officer said, adding, "Upon receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and started their investigation."
Godhiyari village resident Pooja Kumari, one of the victims, said that three days ago, she went to a relative's house to attend an event. "No one was at the house. On Saturday morning, the neighbours called and told us that the lock of the main door was broken. We returned home and found that all the stuff inside was scattered. Jewellery and cash worth Rs 7 lakh were missing from thecupboard," she added.
The other victim, Anita Devi of Maya Bigha, said that she had visited her son who studies in Patna. "We got the news of theft from the neighbours on Saturday, following which we rushed home. Jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh, LIC and land papers were stolen from the almirah. Many important documents also went missing," she said.
Arvind Kuma, SHO of Bhadaur police station, said that applications were received from the victims' families. "Based on this, an investigation is being done. A dog squad and FSL team were also called for an investigation. The police are examining the nearby CCTV footage. The accused will be nabbed soon," he said.
