The operation, carried out by Dhakoli police, led to the arrest of senior constable Devinder Kumar, who is posted with the 82nd Battalion in Chandigarh, along with two accomplices.
ASP Preet Kanwar Singh, SHO Dhakoli, said the arrest was made following a tip-off. Acting swiftly, the police intercepted a triple-rider Activa scooter and conducted a search. Upon checking, they discovered a polybag filled with charas, which was weighed on the spot and confirmed to be 1.8 kg.
The other arrested persons have been identified as Gurjeet Singh, alias Sunny alias Ganji, a resident of Mariwala town, Manimajra, Chandigarh; Ankush Pal, a resident of Una, Himachal Pradesh; and Devinder Kumar, a resident of Nurpur Bedi, Ropar.
ASP Preet Kanwar Singh said all three accused have been taken into police remand. The police are investigating the source of the contraband and identifying potential buyers.
