A father and his son were killed and four sustained injuries when the SUV they were travelling in turned turtle near Kagathi village in Chintamani Rural police limits, Chikkaballapur district, Thursday afternoon.
The deceased are Waheed, 55, and his son Saqlain, 32, residents of Guruppanapalya in Bengaluru. The injured have been hospitalised.
Police said the incident took place when the six were returning after offering prayers at the holy shrine at Murugamalle, Chintamani taluk. The SUV was going at high speed when one of its tyres burst; the driver lost control of the vehicle and it turned upside down. Driver Saqlain and Waheed died on the spot.
Murugumalle police outpost personnel rushed to spot and as there was no sign of an ambulance, TM Chandrappa, assistant sub-inspector, took the injured in his own vehicle to the general hospital in Chintamani. They were later shifted to a Bengaluru hospital.
Chandrappa said it's high time steps were taken to streamline ambulance services, especially in rural areas, as he had similar experiences on previous occasions when ambulances arrived at accident spots late.
