₹5,100 Crore Budget Allocation for Women Prosperity Scheme

New Delhi, March 8 – On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the approval of the much-awaited Women Prosperity Scheme (Mahila Samriddhi Yojana), under which financial aid of ₹2,500 will be provided to economically weaker women. The Delhi Cabinet has sanctioned the scheme, allocating a ₹5,100 crore budget to ensure its implementation.

Announcing the decision, CM Rekha Gupta said, “Fulfilling our promise to support underprivileged women, the Cabinet has officially approved the Women Prosperity Scheme. This initiative marks a historic step towards women’s empowerment, aligning perfectly with the spirit of International Women’s Day.”

CM Rekha Gupta: A Vision for Women’s Empowerment

In her address, CM Gupta emphasized that society’s progress depends on women’s empowerment. She highlighted the journey from “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” to “Beti Badhao”, reinforcing the need for a comprehensive approach to women’s welfare, including education, healthcare, financial independence, and dignity.

“Today, we see significant positive changes in society. It’s time we all internalize the belief that daughters and sons are equal,” she asserted.

BJP Leaders Applaud the Initiative

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva remarked that while March 8 is officially recognized as Women’s Day, every day should be a celebration of women’s contributions. “Women are the backbone of society, and their achievements deserve recognition and encouragement every day,” he said.

BJP MP Kamaljeet Sahrawat echoed similar sentiments, stressing that women have always held a high status in Indian culture. She further praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to women’s welfare and empowerment, stating that wherever BJP governs, women’s development is a priority.

Political Reaction: Congress Questions Funding of the Scheme

While the scheme has been widely welcomed, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit questioned its financial feasibility, stating:
“We appreciate the BJP’s promise of supporting women financially, but the real question is—where will the funds come from? We hope this initiative does not compromise Delhi’s overall development.”
