Bengaluru City University (BCU), in collaboration with the Other Backward Classes and Minority Cell of the university, organised a one-day symposium on “Legacy of Social Reforms and Progress: Contributions of D. Devaraj Urs to Governance” earlier this week.

The event highlighted the transformative role played by former Chief Minister the late D. Devaraj Urs in fostering social justice and development in Karnataka. Writer and critic Banjagere Jayapraksh emphasised Urs’s pivotal role in empowering marginalised communities and leading the State towards progress, despite the historical challenges and the shadow of the Emergency. He pointed out Urs’s landmark achievements in land reforms and the upliftment of backward classes.

Ravi D. Channannavar, IAS Officer, acknowledged Urs’s contributions, particularly in renaming the State as Karnataka and making Kannada the administrative language. The symposium was presided over by BCU Vice Chancellor Lingaraja Gandhi, who spoke about celebrating Urs’s lasting impact on the State’s governance and social reforms.
