Udupi: Women have left a mark in every field, without limiting themselves to a single domain. If we believe that we are incapable of doing something and remain idle, we will not be able to progress in life. Success comes to us when we think progressively about improving our standard of living, said Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swami of Paryaya Shri Puttige Mutt.
He was speaking after inaugurating the
International Women's Day celebration held at the Shri Krishna Mutt on Saturday. The event was jointly organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, District Legal Services Authority, women and child development department, Kannada and culture department, Taluk Women's Organisations Federation, District and Taluk Stree Shakti Federation, and Paryaya Shri Puttige Mutt, Udupi.
The seer said that just as soldiers dedicate themselves to protecting their motherland, women take on the responsibilities of their families with great resilience, handling both joys and hardships with equal strength. Despite facing societal constraints, they proved themselves equal to men in every way. He urged everyone to respect and honour women.
DC Vidya Kumari said that while women in the past were confined within four walls with limited opportunities, today, they have made their presence felt in every sector. She acknowledged that gender discrimination still exists across various fields and stressed the need to eliminate such biases to ensure that women receive equal and dignified opportunities. She encouraged women to take advantage of all govt schemes and step forward in society.
The DC also stressed the importance of promoting education for girls and creating an environment that enables them to achieve higher positions in society.
As resource persons, Dr Nirmala Kumari, director of Vaikunta Baliga Law College, provided insights into women's legal rights, while entrepreneur Divya Rani spoke about how modern women can move forward with self-confidence. Before the formal programme, an exhibition of products made by women was inaugurated.
