Four snatchers held after two gunfights in Noida
Noida: Police arrested four snatchers following two separate gunfights in the district on Friday. One of the accused had over a dozen cases registered against him, cops said.
The first incident took place on Friday morning when police received information that three known miscreants would be approaching the area from Kalindi Kunj on two stolen motorcycles. Cops from Sector 126 police station set up checks and, around 8am, the accused approached the police team.
When cops attempted to stop them for checks, the accused fled towards Yamuna Ghat through the drain track. Cops chased them and a gunfight ensued after the accused opened fire. All three accused were injured during retaliatory firing and subsequently arrested.
The accused are Irshad, Naseem, and Sumit. Cops recovered five mobile phones, two stolen motorcycles, three illegal pistols with empty shells, and three live cartridges from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to snatching phones and other items from passersby, said additional DCP (Noida) Sumit Shukla, adding that all three have prior cases registered against them.
The second gunfight took place in Surajpur around noon, where a police team was carrying checks on the 130m service road when two men approached the team from the Tilpata roundabout on a black Splendor motorcycle without a number plate. When the duo were signalled to stop, they opened fire.
One of the accused, Tajim (38), was injured during retaliatory firing, while the other, Krishna Kumar, managed to flee the spot. Police recovered a pistol with an empty cartridge and two live cartridges, the motorcycle, and five stolen mobile phones from the accused's possession. DCP (central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said that the injured accused was sent to a hospital for treatment and cops are tracing the absconding accused. Tajim has a total of 16 cases registered against him, the police officer added.
