Upalokayukta express ire over pollution of Nandini River

While expressing ire over failure of officials in preventing pollution of Nandini River near Chelairu because of ingress of untreated sewage water, Upalokayukta B. Veerappa on Saturday directed officials to submit detailed report about source of pollution.

The Upalokayukta also directed officials to take action to remove the hyacinth accumulated in the river, near Ullaya Daivastana, in Chelairur village at the earliest and make water compatible for performing religious customs in the river.

The visit of Upalokuyukta Mr. Veerappa to the area was following complaint filed by members of Nandini Nadi Samrakshana Samiti before the Upalokayukta.

Getting information from the revenue officials about encroachment of river bed, the Upalokuyuta directed officials to submit report to Lokayukta about encroachment.

The Upalokayukta interacted with members of Nandini Nadi Samrakshana Samiti, Chelyar Gram Panchayat and residents of Chelyar. He also visited the private hospital in the area and inspected its facilities.

In Udupi district

Earlier in the day, the Upalokayukta visited the Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) unit in Varamballi in Brahmavara taluk of Udupi district. He expressed displeasure with Panchayat officials for not taking measures to clear the gutted items from the site even after seven days of fire accident at the site.

The Uplokayukta also visited APMC yard in Adi Udupi where he expressed the need for proper drinking water facility and better maintenance of pubic toilet. He also visited the dumping yard of Kaup town.
