Woman protects the family by facing challenges and shouldering responsibilities, says seer

Comparing woman to a solider, Paryaya Puttige Mutt Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami on Saturday, March 8, said while a solider protects borders, a woman protects her family by facing all the challenges and shouldering responsibilities.

He was speaking after inaugurating International Women’s Day celebrations organised by Udupi district administration in association with the Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority and others at the Rajangana of Sri Krishna Mutt. It was everyone’s responsibility to revere and honour woman who has shown that she was equal to man by facing all the difficulties posed in society. She lights up life by being a mother, a sister, a wife and a daughter.

Sri Sugunendra said woman has made definite imprints in different fields, including financial, political and technological. Such a stride was possible when one strongly works towards empowering one’s life, he said.

Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari said woman who was confined between four walls once upon a time has exhibited her capability by engaging in almost every field of life. Woman empowerment could happen when girl child was educated, she said urging everyone to focus on girl child education.

The DC advocated that man and woman should live on an equal footing while society has the responsibility to ensure safe environment to a woman to succeed in her chosen field. Families and society should desist questioning or doubting achievements of a woman member. Woman development was the real social change according to B.R. Ambedkar, she said.

Vaikunta Baliga College of Law Director Nirmala Kumari and entrepreneur Divya Rani were the resource persons on legal awareness and entrepreneurship. Earlier, Sri Sugunendra inaugurated an exhibition of products by women entrepreneurs at the Rajangana.

Udupi Urban Development Authority Chairman Dinakar Herur, Kannada and Culture department assistant director Poornima and others were present.
