Criminal injured, arrested after encounter in Pratapgarh

Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested after an encounter in Pratapgarh late Thursday night.
The police recovered Rs 25,000 cash, a countrymade pistol of .315 bore, two used cartridges and a motorcycle from the criminal identified as Arvind Bind.
However, his accomplice managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness.
Bind was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Police said a joint team of Kotwali Dehat police and SWAT were conducting routine checking near ATL Ground Road when they noticed two suspicious people on a motorcycle. The cops signaled the duo to stop, but they tried to escape. However, when the police team surrounded them, they opened fire. The cops retaliated, resulting in an injury to one of them.
Police said Bind, a resident of Denva Dubauli village of Pratapgarh, has 11 criminal cases pending against him in districts, including Amethi, Pratapgarh and Jaunpur.
